8 years ago today in Tokyo, Japan, Naoshi Sano wins the Dramatic Dream Team Ironman Heavymetalweight Championship from The Crazy SKB...in an auction. Moments later, Sempai wins a battle royal to win the title. The Ironman Heavymetalweight Championship is similar to the WWF Hardcore Championship's latter days when the title must be defended at any time, day or night, as long as there is a referee present. Champions have included a baseball bat, a ladder, a sex doll, a poster, and the title belt itself. Since the championship was born in June 2000, it has changed hands over 1000 times.

7 years ago today, WWE enters broadcasts RAW for the first time in high-definition. The transition included a universal set used for all their shows (and a few years later, most of their PPVs). In the first match of the HD era, Shawn Michaels defeated Mr. Kennedy.

2 years ago today, WWE announces that long-time world champion Bob Backlund would be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.
