WWE had a hell of a year on pay-per-view, delivering multiple quality events that featured plenty of great wrestling. However, the very best show of the year was not a WWE show. No, that honor goes to NXT and its Takeover: R Evolution live special on the WWE Network, which has been crowned the "Event of the Year" in the Cageside Seats Year-End Awards for 2014.
Sean Rueter, our resident NXT expert, gave the event an "A+" grade.
It was stacked from top to bottom, with Sami Zayn winning the NXT championship from Adrian Neville in a thrilling main event that capped off an unbelievable story of an underdog's ultimate triumph. Meanwhile, Finn Balor broke out the face paint to team up with Hideo Itami to lay waste to The Ascension while Kevin Owens made his NXT debut in an awesome opener, soundly defeating CJ Parker.
All of this without mentioning the outstanding Charlotte vs. Sasha Banks women's title match.
The voting was a landslide, with only WrestleMania 30 garnering double digit votes opposite Takeover: R Evolution. Even that didn't come close.
Here are the full results of our poll:
