Rumor Roundup (Sept. 4, 2014): CM Punk WWE update, Brock Lesnar vs. John Cena plan, more!

Speculating on the rumors surrounding pro wrestling is a favored pastime of many fans, perhaps second only to actually watching the matches. In this daily column, we take a look at the latest rumors being churned out by the pro wrestling rumor mill.

Important reminder: Rumors are just that -- rumors. None of this has been confirmed as legitimate news or fact, it's just circulating around the pro wrestling rumor mill. Remember, take it all with a grain of salt.

Rumors for the Day:

  • According to the Wrestling Observer, attorneys representing CM Punk have sent a long letter to WWE over royalties. The belief is WWE stopped paying him said royalties due to breach of contract when he left back in January but they are obviously still using his likeness for things like the WWE 2K15 video game.
  • It's looking more and more like Brock Lesnar is going to defeat John Cena at Night of Champions to retain the WWE world heavyweight championship but there will be some outside involvement, possibly from Seth Rollins, and whoever gets involved will move on to feud with Cena after that while Lesnar moves on to something else.
  • WrestleZone is reporting that Steven Guerrieri, the lead writer for NXT, has been named the lead writer for SmackDown while Ryan Ward, who had been writing SmackDown, has been sent back down to NXT as its lead writer, a position he previously held.
  • Although many within WWE apparently believed that Jim Ross would eventually make his way back to the company, it doesn't appear as though that will be the case. A lot of time is going to have to pass, and some key decision makers changing their minds or no longer being the decision makers, for anything to change. As for Ross, he just announced an MMA announcing gig alongside Chael Sonnen in Oklahoma.
  • TNA is apparently still reaching out to Alberto Del Rio in the hopes of getting a deal done.

If you have heard of any interesting rumors that you'd like to add, feel free to post them in the comments section below. Just remember they are rumors and not confirmed as fact, so please take them as such. Have fun with it.
