'Freedom Fighter' Darren Young tells his story and plans his comeback in new video

We have a new entry in the "Reality Era" kayfabe shoot interview library.

Darren Young, scheduled to return soon from a post-WrestleMania knee injury (possibly in a bunny suit), dropped this promo video on YouTube yesterday. In it, he chronicles his whole career from working New Jersey independent promotions as a young man, breaking into WWE via the initial "reality competition" version of NXT and then the Nexus, his coming out to TMZ and, in the most storyline-driven bit, his friendship and feud with Titus O'Neil.

Dubbing himself "Freedom Fighter" Darren Young, he vows to make a splash as a singles star upon his return. The nickname certainly makes reference to his being the first openly gay active roster member, but he doesn't harp on that fact elsewhere in the video, so it's too early to tell for sure how much that will be utilized to get him over on the solo scene.

While I applaud his willingness to be himself regardless of the consequences, he's never done a lot for me as a promo or an in-ring performer. Will this new edge in look and character be the thing that pushes him higher up the card?

Let us know what you think.
