The WWE locker room is more worried about whether you're reading comic books than if you're gay or straight

Former WWE Superstar Brodus Clay (real name George Murdoch; recently debuted in TNA as Tyrus) has a shoot interview out from the YouShoot series.

In it, the former Funkasaurus addresses a question about how the WWE roster reacted when Darren Young publicly acknowledged his sexuality in a TMZ interview last year.  The video was shot this summer, when Michael Sam - the first openly gay football player drafted by an NFL team - and the St. Louis Rams' locker room was a hot sports topic.

Unsurprisingly, especially considering how WWE supported and utilized Young at public relations functions while booking him almost exactly as he had before coming out, Clay's response largely amounts to "whatever".  But it does finish with a great line that lets you know that pro wrestlers have their priorities in order:

To be honest with you, our locker room, we have openly gay guys we work with and it was never a big deal.

A lot of of times I was concerned, I'll leave it up to him if he wants to disclose this himself or whatever, but I was worried about his dating habits. I wanted him to be careful because he does the dating sites and stuff like that. We were talking to him, like 'how is your dating life?' and things like that.

So it wasn't really a big thing when he came out.  I think for him probably he just made himself more comfortable.

In terms of the locker room, it wasn't a big deal. One of the greatest teachers and stars in our business, Mr. Pat Patterson...We weren't like, "oh my what?" We're past that. Our locker room is very accepting of that.

Honestly, we're probably more angry if someone's not reading comic books than whether they're gay or straight.

The online dating mention is a little weird, because part of the narrative around Darren's announcement was that he was tired of hiding his boyfriend, but perhaps they had just gotten serious, or Brodus is talking about farther in the past.

But I'm not mad at him for that.  As long as he's reading comic books.
