Rumor Roundup (Sept. 18, 2014): Steve Austin WWE update, Sting at WrestleMania 31, Dean Ambrose return, more!

Speculating on the rumors surrounding pro wrestling is a favored pastime of many fans, perhaps second only to actually watching the matches. In this daily column, we take a look at the latest rumors being churned out by the pro wrestling rumor mill.

Important reminder: Rumors are just that -- rumors. None of this has been confirmed as legitimate news or fact, it's just circulating around the pro wrestling rumor mill. Remember, take it all with a grain of salt.

Rumors for the Day:

  • Regarding those rumors of something being up between Stone Cold Steve Austin and WWE, he's apparently been talking about training hard in anticipation of getting ready for a match at WrestleMania 31 in the event the two sides can come to terms. Austin vs. John Cena is a direction they could go.
  • It's once again being said that most in WWE expect that Sting will have his retirement match at WrestleMania 31 and it's just a matter of deciding how to do it. With it being September, we're at least getting closer to this situation needing to resolve itself sooner rather than later.
  • Dean Ambrose is still expected to return at the Night of Champions pay-per-view this weekend in Nashville. It appears as though Roman Reigns pinning Seth Rollins clean on Raw was due in part to WWE wanting to give that match a definitive finish because it won't get one at the PPV. It's looking like The Authority will beat down Reigns until Ambrose makes the save in his big return.
  • It's been said that the AJ Lee-Paige interaction has been done with the intention of teasing sexual tension between the two, so that is the point of what they're doing on TV and it's intentional. WWE is trying to be a little more risque without running afoul of its various partnerships that wouldn't be on board with going too far with such things.
  • The reason the NXT stars like Adrian Neville, Sami Zayn, and The Ascension weren't used on Raw this past week is because it was the go home show for Night of Champions and, obviously, none are working that show.

If you have heard of any interesting rumors that you'd like to add, feel free to post them in the comments section below. Just remember they are rumors and not confirmed as fact, so please take them as such. Have fun with it.
