According to PWInsider.com, there are more episodes of World Class Championship Wrestling (WCCW) and ECW shows being prepped for WWE Network release in the coming weeks and months. That's good news, but it's not the biggest addition that the archives will feature...
Nope, that would be all 26 episodes of Hulk Hogan's Rock 'n' Wrestling, the mid-80s cartoon that ran for 26 episodes on CBS, back when the only times you could watch cartoons on television were Saturday mornings and an hour or so after school on weekdays.
The show was produced by DIC Entertainment, the company behind Inspector Gadget, Captain Planet and other 80s and early 90s children's shows. It featured a pretty standard set-up of Hogan and his babyface pals facing off against Rowdy Roddy Piper and his heel crew in wacky set-ups. The voices were not provided by the actual wrestlers, and production lead times meant that personnel changes (such as Jimmy Snuka and Wendy Richter leaving the then WWF) or alignment changes (notably, Andre the Giant's heel turn) were not reflected on the show.
Seems like a neat curiousity piece, but probably not something that's going to drive subscriptions.
Any of you Cagesiders excited to relive part of my and other late 30 & early 40-somethings' childhoods?
