Rumor Roundup (Aug. 9, 2014): Alberto Del Rio, WWE cuts, Kane return, Ric Flair, more!

Speculating on the rumors surrounding pro wrestling is a favored pastime of many fans, perhaps second only to actually watching the matches. In this daily column, we take a look at the latest rumors being churned out by the pro wrestling rumor mill.

Important reminder: Rumors are just that -- rumors. None of this has been confirmed as legitimate news or fact, it's just circulating around the pro wrestling rumor mill. Remember, take it all with a grain of salt.

Rumors for the Day:

  • For what it's worth, Dave Meltzer remarked on The Board at the Observer that Cody Barbierri, Manager of Social Media Live Events at WWE, is the man Alberto Del Rio allegedly slapped. It's still being said that a remark taken as racially charged is what caused it, but there isn't much new information about what was actually said. For what it's worth, Triple H retweeted the WWE Twitter account tweeting about fans blaming Del Rio if they want to blame anyone for this situation.
  • Also of note, Meltzer compared this situation with AJ Lee getting into a confrontation with Michelle Beadle at the Tribute to the Troops show last year. Apparently, WWE had decided to fire AJ over it but Vince McMahon came in and overruled it because it would have been the wrong call in the long run.
  • It appears the recent cutbacks hit the creative team recently, as there may have been up to five writers let go over the past week. That includes the Senior Vice President of Creative, Edward Feldmann.
  • It's at least possible that Kane unmasked so he could leave for a few weeks and return as Jacob Goodnight, the lead role he plays in the See No Evil series. The second film in said series will be released on Oct. 17 and they'll be ramping up promotion for it. This could be one of the things they do.
  • Little late getting to this one, but it was noted recently that Ric Flair's promo in his return when he was "flirting" with Renee Young was entirely scripted. Yes, that means he did exactly what WWE asked him to do and wasn't ad-libbing much at all. So, yeah.

If you have heard of any interesting rumors that you'd like to add, feel free to post them in the comments section below. Just remember they are rumors and not confirmed as fact, so please take them as such. Have fun with it.
