WWE NXT results, live open thread for August 21, 2014: Torneo de parejas

Here's a place to check results and comment along with the latest airing of WWE NXT in its regular Thursday night at 9PM Eastern time slot on WWE Network. We'll have our regular reactions post later, but we'll post match results here. More importantly, this gives you Cagesiders a dedicated place to rave and/or bitch about whatever goes down on the show dedicated to WWE's Florida-based developmental program - as it airs!

Last week, that wonderfully unique-within-the-WWE experience, the tournament, would have been the centerpiece of most episodes, with half of the field to determine the next challengers to The Acension's tag titles in action.  The Vaudevillains victory, leading to the start of a feud between Bull Dempsey and Mojo Rawley, and another glimpse at what Kalisto can do as he and Sin Cara advanced, were solid pro wrestling exhibitions. But they were also totally outshined by a Tyler Breeze shot at NXT champion Adrian Neville and an epic battle between Sasha Banks and Bayley to decide the #1 contender for the Women's belt currently worn by Charlotte.  The men's title bout ended indecisively (but with lots of storyline implications) when Tyson Kidd caused a disqualification and Sami Zayn ran in to protect the champ against a two-on-one assault.  The women stole the show with an inventively produced and expertly executed affair that ended with Bayley executing one of the most thrilling roll-ups you'll ever see on The Boss.

This week...another stacked show!  At this rate, Takeover (II: The Secret of the Ooze © C. Priest Brumley) will have to feature the debuts of Kenta, Kevin Steen and Fergal Devitt to top some of the shows building to September's live event.  Both semi-final matches of the tournament are going down, and while Sami Zayn is busy teaming with Adam Rose there, we're left to wonder if the cease fire between the heels chasing Neville's strap will hold, or will Prince Pretty pursue his issues with Kidd?  Plus, Women's champ Charlotte will be in action!
