The Authority vs. The YES! Movement
Stephanie McMahon vs. Brie Bella
One of the principal owners of WWE will put her wrestling boots on for the first time in over a decade to deal with an ornery employee who decided she just wasn't going to take it anymore and said "bitch" a lot until a match was booked.
The Road to SummerSlam
You have to go all the way back to Stephanie sending Kane to terrorize Daniel Bryan and, in turn, Brie. The Authority wanted to get the WWE world heavyweight title off Bryan after he won it at WrestleMania, but because Triple H was busy reforming Evolution to deal with The Shield, Stephanie had to step in and handle the champion.
After a great deal of back and forth posturing and battling and other assorted nonsense, Stephanie managed to enrage Brie enough to push her. That led to her demanding that either Bryan relinquish the title or she would fire his wife.
Brie, in her attempt to be a strong woman who wouldn't be pushed around anymore, willingly fell on the grenade for her husband.
Sadly, Bryan would relinquish the title anyway after suffering an injury that has kept him out of action to this day.
Still, Stephanie, being the evil vindictive overlord, decided to rub salt in the wound by booking Brie's sister, Nikki, in increasingly impossible matches that saw her beat down time and again. Brie, having quit, was helpless to stop this.
That is until she showed up to the arena as a fan one night and hatched a plan to get her job back.
It worked, of course, and Stephanie agreed to the match.
They signed the contract and Stephanie went full Triple H with Pedigree's for everyone.
Other stuff happened, but let's not even get into Megan Miller.
What's at Stake?
Pride.
Power.
Respect.
