They've been hinting at this as the direction for a number of weeks, even if there were brief hints at WWE dropping the feud altogether, but it just went official with the airing of tonight's episode of SmackDown: Rusev vs. Jack Swagger in a Flag match at SummerSlam on Sun., Aug. 17, 2014, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.
The first pay-per-view (PPV) match between the two took place at Battleground last month in Tampa, a mess of a 10-minute bout that saw Rusev win via count out. In an odd twist, the announcing teams initially treated the win like it came via submission, possibly in response to the hint that the angle could be dropped after Lana's controversial promo at the same show.
They ultimately stayed the course and now it's time for the rematch, this time with the American and Russian flags up for grabs.
Here's the updated SummerSlam match card and line-up:
- John Cena vs. Brock Lesnar (WWE world heavyweight championship)
- Brie Bella vs. Stephanie McMahon
- Chris Jericho vs. Bray Wyatt
- Rusev vs. Jack Swagger (Flag match)
