Yesterday, we passed along the news that WWE officially signed Irishman Fergal "Prince" Devitt, an international star most famous for his time in New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW). Today, TMZ brings word that Devitt is already in Florida, having reported for duty at the Performance Center and getting shown the ropes (presumably literally) by Hall of Famer Dusty Rhodes. You can see a pic of the American Dream and the WWE newcomer at this link.
Since Devitt and Kenta are already on-site in Orlando, and both men are rumored to only be in Developmental for a short-time (due to their age - both are 33 - and vast depth and breadth of pre-WWE experience), we figured you might want to bone up on their body of work before they show up on WWE Network and cable television.
Here's a nifty tag match from KENTA's home promotion in Japan, Pro Wrestling NOAH that features the fan favorite tagging with current TNA tag champ Eddie Edwards against a villainous Devitt and Ryusuke Taguchi.
If you can't wait for some KENTA on Devitt action, go ahead and jump to 10:58.
There's no Fergal in this clip from Ring of Honor (ROH)'s old HDNet television show, but it does have English language commentary over some KENTA kicks. As an added bonus, you can see a younger version of the man most believe will be WWE's next big signing announcement, Mr. Wrestling, Kevin Steen.
The guy in the mask seems so familiar to me, too. Not sure why I can't place it...
Last but not least, there's been a ton of discussion of if Devitt will be able to continue with his pop culture ring entrances and body paints in WWE, since most are of licensed characters such as Hannibal Lector, Batman villains Bane & The Joker and Spider-man villains such as Venom & Anti-Venom.
In case you haven't see them before, and in the likely event you won't see them in this form for as long as he's under contract to WWE, here's a taste.
Still having a hard time believing this is happening, but to quote Kurt Angle, it's real. Feel free to share your favorite KENTA, Devitt and Steen matches and memories in the comments below, while we all wait for Kenta vs. Adrian Neville and Fergal Devitt vs. Sami Zayn.
Wait a minute. I know who that luchador reminds me of...
