Speculating on the rumors surrounding pro wrestling is a favored pastime of many fans, perhaps second only to actually watching the matches. In this daily column, we take a look at the latest rumors being churned out by the pro wrestling rumor mill.
Important reminder: Rumors are just that -- rumors. None of this has been confirmed as legitimate news or fact; so remember to take it all with a grain of salt.
Rumors for the Day:
- If it wasn't clear already, the top four matches for SummerSlam are, in fact, set in stone: Brock Lesnar vs. John Cena for the WWE world heavyweight title, Dean Ambrose vs. Seth Rollins (possibly for the briefcase), Roman Reigns vs. Randy Orton, and Stephanie McMahon vs. Brie Bella.
- For those wondering, the plan is still for Lesnar to win the WWE world heavyweight championship and for the rematch to happen at Night of Champions, possibly in a steel cage. As for his retaining in that match, well...
- It's certainly not set in stone, but it appears as though The Miz vs. Sheamus in an Intercontinental/U.S. title unification match could happen at SummerSlam. WWE will apparently be debuting its new logo on all its belts, so the designs will be updated and it's possible right now that one of those belts is done away with. They've talked about doing this multiple times this year, so we'll see if they pull the trigger.
- The health issue that kept Rob Van Dam from both the Intercontinental title battle royal at Battleground and last night's episode of Raw is minor and he is expected back soon, possibly as early as next week.
- So it appears as though Ricky Steamboat may not have been released by WWE after all.
