WWE Battleground 2014 results: Rob Van Dam injury kept him from Intercontinental title battle royal

When The Miz won the Intercontinental championship at tonight's Battleground pay-per-view (PPV) at the Tampa Bay Times Forum in Tampa, Florida, he did so by outlasting 18 other competitors in the battle royal. That number should have been 19 but Rob Van Dam was absent for reasons never explained on the broadcast.

WWE.com didn't provide a breaking news update either.

Instead, the news came in the recap for the match on the company's website as a footnote:

As Sheamus and Ziggler squared off, Miz lurked in wait on the arena floor, still in contention. Pushing their bodies to the limit, both Superstars fought for the title. Ultimately, Ziggler eliminated Sheamus and seemingly claimed another championship. Quickly seizing the opportunity to strike, Miz jumped back in the ring and eliminated Ziggler to become a three-time Intercontinental Champion.

Although scheduled to be in the bout, RVD did not compete due to injury. Stay with WWE.com for more on RVD's condition.

It's interesting that WWE choose to reveal the information in this manner, as opposed to explaining as much on the broadcast. We will update this strange situation if and when any new information becomes available.
