WWE Battleground 2014 results: John Cena wins to retain world heavyweight title

The main event of tonight's (July 20, 2014) WWE Battleground pay-per-view (PPV) at the Tampa Bay Times Forum in Tampa, Florida, featured a Fatal 4-Way match for the WWE world heavyweight championship, with John Cena defending his title against Randy Orton, Kane, and Roman Reigns.

AND STIIILLLLLLLL.

The story of the match was exactly what we expected. Orton and Kane couldn't get along and turned on each other shortly into the match. They teased multiple one-on-one confrontations between Reigns and Cena but Orton or Kane were always there to ensure it didn't happen.

Finally, the two squared off in the center of the ring and exchanged punches. Reigns got the better of it and after hitting a Superman Punch and Spear had the match won.

Until, of course, Kane showed up to break it up.

That's when the match broke down into "guy hits move and crowd gets hot for sure finish but other guy jumps in to break it up" mode. Ultimately, Reigns hit a Spear on Kane only for Orton to hit him with an RKO before Cena climbed in and hit the AA on Orton on top of Kane.

He pinned Kane right after to retain the WWE world heavyweight championship.
