Money in the Bank 2014 results: John Cena wins WWE world heavyweight championship

J. Meric

John Cena is your new WWE world heavyweight champion after bringing down the two titles suspended above the ring in the main event of tonight's (Sun., June 29, 2014) Money in the Bank pay-per-view (PPV) from the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts.

You knew it, right?

Triple H and Stephanie McMahon were out at ringside for the festivities. It was chaos early, of course, like a Royal Rumble but with only eight guys (Randy Orton, Kane, Bray Wyatt, Roman Reigns, John Cena, Alberto Del Rio, and Cesaro) and even more ladders. When they finally settled things down, it was to set up Kane laying everyone out and attempting to assist Orton in winning the title.

Naturally, that failed so early in the contest and everyone got their turn to climb the ladder and fight over the belts.

Then it just got ugly.

Everyone was getting involved in some form or another in the usual manner you see in matches like this. They set up everyone to win, teased victory for most of the guys in the match, then went back to the main story that Kane was there to help Orton.

This led into Reigns cleaning house, hitting a finish on damn near everyone in the match ... save for Cena. They had a staredown and brawled for a minute.

Surprisingly enough, Reigns got the better of it, spearing Cena out of the ring and leaving no one in between him and the WWE world heavyweight title.

Orton was first to recover, and he used a backbreaker to, well, break Reigns' back.

Wyatt recovered and got in to hit Orton with Sister Abigail.

Del Rio recovered and used a couple kicks to take Wyatt out.

Sheamus recovered and used a Brogue Kick to take out Del Rio.

Cesaro recovered and used an uppercut and Neutralized Sheamus.

Orton recovered again and swung Cesaro's leg off before hitting an RKO.

Then it was Reigns' turn to recover and get back in the match. With help from Kane, Reigns was taken down.

That left only John Cena to come in, lay out both Orton and Kane, and win the title.

There you go.
