As opposed to having a wrestling match to get the crowd warmed up for the main pay-per-view (PPV) attraction, WWE will instead bring Daniel Bryan back for the first time since relinquishing his WWE world heavyweight title at this Sunday night's Money in the Bank event in Boston, Massachusetts.
From WWE.com:
What will Bryan, out of action since May 4, have to say about the status of his neck injury, let alone The Authority's decision to strip him of the title or the resignation of his wife, Brie Bella, which was done in protest of an ultimatum from Stephanie McMahon? And what are The Beard's opinions of this Sunday's historic WWE World Heavyweight Championship Ladder Match?
The idea here is something like what they did at Payback when they ran the angle with his wife, Brie Bella, quitting WWE to ensure he kept the title. With PPVs now airing on the WWE Network, the idea is not just to run great matches but offer a compelling angle to get fans to tune in.
Bryan returning to address his future should do just that.
But will he actually have anything of value to add to the proceedings?
Latest reports indicate WWE still hopes to have him back for SummerSlam but even if that's the case the originally planned main event title match with Brock Lesnar is now off the table. It's entirely possible, however, that Bryan won't actually be able to wrestle his next match until Night of Champions.
Let's hope, instead, that Bryan surprises us and informs us he's healthy enough to return sooner.
