While the smark community debates whether Dean Ambrose or Seth Rollins is the man, it's pretty clear that WWE brass and large swaths of the WWE Universe see something pretty special in Roman Reigns.
Is it the chiseled jaw? The Barry White bass? The unique combination of power and athleticism he brings to the ring? The totes adorbs tea parties with his daughter?
In reality, it's probably all of those as part of a mix that provides a indescribabl charismatic presence known as "It".
And it doesn't just effect us average joe and jill on the street fans. It even grabs super-fans, like UFC champion Ronda Rousey.
In the case of "Rowdy" and Roman, it just might be a mutual admiration, too.
It started when Reigns re-tweeted this musing from wrestling writer and podcaster Bret Ciminello:
The @TheShieldWWE needs a new member. A female. THE female. @RondaRousey , believe in the Shield! @WWE @WWERomanReigns @TheDeanAmbrose
— Bret Ciminello (@MidgeBringsIt) June 7, 2014
Causing Rousey to, basically, MARK THE $#&% OUT:
How did I not see this till right now!? #thisisawesome @wweromanreigns pic.twitter.com/ohdm9lR4Uw
— Ronda Rousey (@RondaRousey) June 10, 2014
A fact that she even cops to:
Btw I fan-girled out on that @WWERomanReigns tweet so bad I screwed up like 5 times lol
— Ronda Rousey (@RondaRousey) June 10, 2014
The champ, with her "Four Horsewomen" stable of fighters and stated fantasy of doing some wrestling work if here schedule ever allowed it, would look pretty badass in black tactical gear. But that's probably not going to happen.
Still, it's testament to the reach and appeal of the trio of young stars WWE has in Ambrose, Reigns and Rollins that they can capture the attention of all kinds of fans, and drive the pro wrestling conversation when there are big stories about guys like John Cena, Daniel Bryan and CM Punk still out there.
Believe in The Shield.
Ronda Rousey does.
