WWE Payback 2014 results: The Shield win an AWESOME match with Evolution

The main event of tonight's (Sun., June 1, 2014) WWE Payback pay-per-view (PPV) at the Allstate Arena in Chicago, Illinois, featured The Shield (Dean Ambrose, Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins) vs. Evolution (Triple H, Batista, Randy Orton) in a No Holds Barred six-man elimination tag match.

It was, as expected, very good.

Here's the order of elimination and who sent who out:

1. Batista (Rollins)
2. Orton (Ambrose)
3. Triple H (Reigns)

It took a while for the two teams to find their rhythm and timing but once they settled in and got their groove back, the action came hot and heavy. As per usual, The Shield bumped around like crazy and the match was well laid out, if a little slow in spots.

Interestingly enough, there were no eliminations for the first 20 minutes of the match. Evolution took control and when they did, they brutalized The Shield in the ring and at the stage set up. Each guy was made to take a particularly rough bump.

Reigns, in particular, was singled out and really taken to. He was laid out over the steps in the ring and each guy took turns holding his arms and caning him. It was really weird and even a bit uncomfortable. They worked their way up the aisle and did something similar to Dean Ambrose.

Then, Seth Rollins went flying off the stage set up with a splash and destroyed worlds.

Rollins and Batista crawled back to the ring and after a short back-and-forth, Reigns recovered to hit a Spear and get the pin to send Batista out. Randy Orton came in and hit an RKO on Rollins but before he could get the pin, Reigns made the save. Roman was set up for the draping DDT but Ambrose used a chair to make the save, then hit Dirty Deeds on a chair before eliminating Orton.

That left only Triple H.

"The Game" hit a low bow on Ambrose and set up for the Pedigree but Reigns came in with a Superman punch. Batista jumped back in the ring to hit a spear to leave everyone laying at this point and good lord, this was awesome.

Orton slid a sledgehammer in to Triple H, and he used it on Ambrose but Rollins hit Peace of Mind and Reigns followed with a Spear to get the pinfall.

Clean sweep.

Believe in The Shield.
