The battle of good vs. evil continued tonight (Sun., June 1, 2014) at the Allstate Arena in Chicago, Illinois, as John Cena battled Bray Wyatt in a Last Man Standing match at the latest WWE pay-per-view (PPV) on the WWE Network, Payback.
For those, like me, wondering if WWE would go the right of smart psychology unlike SmackDown from last Friday, they did indeed bring out The Usos to back up Cena against The Wyatt Family before the match ever got underway.
From there, they went about a match with slower than usual workrate but a much faster pace than one would expect. By that I mean Cena went into his five moves of doom spot super early on and finishers were busted out not long after.
Cena beat 10 count after Sister Abigail.
Wyatt beat a 10 count after an Attitude Adjustment.
That's when the gimmicks came out. Tables, ladders steps, and chairs; oh my!
And it was exactly what they needed all along.
If left to work a straight singles match within the confines of all the normal rules and regulations they wouldn't have been able to go the extra mile for a feud that demands it. Each guy went further and further to incapacitate his foe, with some big spots including Cena throwing steel steps into Wyatt's dome piece, Cena eating Sister Abigail on the outside mat as Cena was jumping down from the apron, and Wyatt taking an AA on the other side.
It was wild.
It got even more insane.
Jey Uso went diving through a table into the barricade where Erick Rowan was laid up. Then Luke Harper superplexed Jimmy Uso through a table set up on the outside of the ring. Then Wyatt speared Cena through the barricade near the announce desk.
This was nuts.
The finish saw Cena hit Bray with an AA into a crate before pushing another on top of him, trapping him in. The referee counted to 10 and Cena won the match.
That was a lot of fun.
