With tonight's (Sun., June 1, 2014) Payback pay-per-view (PPV) taking place at the Allstate Arena in Chicago, Illinois, in front of a crowd of smart but ornery fans, WWE was tasked with the decision of whether or not to acknowledge retired star CM Punk.
You know, seeing as rumors of his return are so often greatly exaggerated, even when he openly speaks of being retired.
Well, the company got it out of the way early, just like the last time they went rolling through Chicago on March 3 with Monday Night Raw, by having Paul Heyman cut a promo, this one not nearly as good and far shorter than the last.
When he walked out, to cheers, mind you, the fans quickly chanted CM Punk's name. Heyman let them do so for about 15 seconds before cutting in with:
"Oh, I'm sorry. He's not here tonight. He's over at the United Center watching the Blackhawks ... watching the Blackhawks get their streak broken by the Kings ... just like the king of all streaks was broken by my client Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania."
And now we can all go back to enjoying the show.
