The Spear's Cageside Evaluation

The move is The Spear and Cageside Seats readers have reported back on what they love and loathe about it. Here's the full evaluation.

What you loved:

  1. Roman Reigns - His version of the spear is currently the best in the biz. He's got the size and attitude to make it work. A great finisher for him.
  2. Favorite Finisher - A bunch of you said this is your favorite finisher when done by the right person. This makes me think a bunch of you have done this to friends and family.
  3. Best of the Rest - To save room, I'll just put Goldberg, Kaitlyn, and Rhyno were next behind Mr. Reigns. All three had the size, and Goldberg/Rhyno had the attitude to pull off this move in fine fashion.
  4. Sell It! - Like with most moves, when the spear is sold right, it looks like death. Some wrestlers who did it the best were Jeff Hardy, AJ Lee, and Dolph Ziggler.
  5. Surprise Effect - This move can be extremely surprising on TV when proper camera angles are used. Also nice when a table is involved.

My favorite comment comes from Dr. Handsome, D.D.S.:

"Love: When properly executed by big, explosive guys that kick off hard, leave their legs behind them and wrap at the point of impact. This is the definition of what Roman Reigns and Goldberg does… and did. I also love it when the right guy sells the impact of it (Jeff Hardy)."

What you loathed:

  1. E & C - Oh boy, these two just never were right for this move. Especially Christian, I mean at least Edge was taller, so it looked slightly better. Christian's was just an aggressive hug. Easy #1 choice here.
  2. Small Guys - Hate to keep picking on the small guys, but just stop. This is a certified big guy move. Don't have to be super tall, but must have some muscle to them to make the move look devastating.
  3. Big Show - Not just small guys, but really big guys, just stop. Big Show looks like he's running and trips into the guy, it's awful. Not to mention he uses it as a...
  4. Mid-Match Move - This is supposed to be a finisher, yet too many people use it randomly during a match. Hopefully with Reigns using the spear so effectively, we will see others use it less. I mean when Goldberg used this move in WCW, nobody else did, right?

My favorite comment comes via sun yue:

"An Edge/Christian Spear looks about as convincing as Dolph Ziggler’s offense."

Onto the poll! With 194 votes, The Spear's average score is 4.1. Good scores so far with wrestling moves. I might have to pick the "Ye-taayyy Hug" next so we can have a hate-fest.

Thanks, Cagesiders! Tomorrow's pick has made Vince cry.

Until then!
