Rumor Roundup (May 5, 2014): CM Punk WWE Superstar, Daniel Bryan push, Ric Flair Evolution return, more!

Who was hanging out with William Regal in Rio ? Where was CM Punk this weekend ? What does Ric Flair have to do to get back in the good graces of HHH? Possible answers to these questions in today's Rumor Round-Up.

For many fans, reading about rumors -- and trawling the sites that traffic in them -- has become as popular as watching the matches themselves. In this daily column, we take a look at the biggest rumors and weirdest stories being churned out by those pro wrestling "news" sites.

Important reminders: Rumors are "rumors" and not "news" for a reason, folks. That which has not been confirmed as legitimate news or fact will be made clear. Also, don't let these things ruin your day. It gets better.

Mr. Regal goes to Rio:

Last week, the dirt screens reported that the WWE and, more specifically, William Regal was in Brazil to scout talent at a few promotions in the region: BWG and FILL.  The specific names being scouted, however, were not.

Thankfully for all of us, those questions have been answered.

First, it appears that Insano Igor, Max Miller, Tim Anderson, Brutus e Xandao, Sonico, Tytan, Prodan and Pezao are rumored to be receiving tryouts at the Performance Center. And it seems that those were the choices of not just Regal but WWE Director of Talent Canyon Ceman, who joined him on the scouting tour.

This is seen not just as an important first step for keeping one step ahead of "competition" -- at least for talent  -- from promotions like Jeff Jarrett's Global Force Wrestling when it comes to international scouting. It also means a plan for the WWE to expand to Brazil in the future as it expands its global reach to untapped markets like the BRIC countries of Brazil, India and China.

In fact, according to PWInsider.com, it seem as though that's the largest reason they were signed: the belief that they would be able to help develop relations with promoters in the country. This seems slightly counter intuitive -- ingratiating yourself with the locals by stealing half their rosters seems short-sighted -- but it also seems to imply that at least part of the goal of the NXT program is going to be develop regional stars to deploy internationally at some point down the road.

Random Rumors and NEWZ:

  • We have a new "dumbest possible CM Punk clickbait" champion: CM Punk was introduced as "WWE Superstar CM Punk" at a Chicago Blackhawks game. The incident occurred when the former champion came on the ice to take part in a shootout activity during the intermission of one of the games this weekend. We at the Rumor Round-Up were unable to find out why they didn't simply refer to him to his much more common title: Phil Brooks, Panelist, Talking Dead.
  • Daniel Bryan is still in the trial phase as a top-of-the-card performer, but the way in which he carries himself is considered to be extremely helpful to his cause. With the surprise main event match against Kane -- at least in the sense of it ending the show -- it seems that unlike, let's say CM Punk, the WWE may be willing to have him main event PPVs going forward. The only thing standing in his way at this point seems to be whether or not officials can determine -- and your correspondent swears this isn't a joke and doesn't think it sounds like a work -- whether Daniel Bryan or the "Yes!" chant are what's over. How anyone in the WWE hasn't seen WrestleMania XXX at this point remains unclear.
  • While there's no saying what Flair's "spacey" performance did to change the trajectory of this story, it sounds like Ric Flair may be invited back into the fold as a full-time member of Evolution if -- and this is, unfortunately a big if -- he can "get his house in order." Whether this means he needs to literally get his house in order  -- clear his debts, etc. as well as slow his partying down -- or simply slow down isn't readily apparent. And whether or not he would replace Batista in the role of "guy who gets blown up walking to the ring" wasn't either.
