WWE NXT is set to run the second live special in its history since moving to the WWE Network when the over-the-top launched this Spring. Coming at you next Thursday, May 29, 2014 at 8PM Eastern, the last matches for the event were made official on this week's episode of the show.
March's ArRIVAL special was a stacked card that featured a "Match of the Year" candidate in Sami Zayn vs. Cesaro and one of the best WWE women's matches in history in Paige vs. Emma, so the show, dubbed Takeover, has a lot to live up to.
Here's what they're offering up:
- Adrian Neville vs. Tyson Kidd (NXT Championship match)
Neville has held the belt since beating Bo Dallas for it at ArRIVAL in a ladder match. The British high flier has been feuding with Brodus Clay since, but will get a chance to put on a real show with a skilled dance partner like Kidd. The Hart Dungeon trainee earned this spot with a win in a triple threat match against Sami Zayn and Tyler Breeze (more on them in a minute). As it stands now, this is a babyface vs. babyface affair.
- Charlotte vs. Natalya (NXT Women's Championship tournament final)
Paige, the only women to ever hold the NXT title, was forced to vacate the strap when she beat AJ Lee for the WWE Divas belt on the Raw after WrestleMania 31. An eight woman tournament was christened to determine her successor. Rumor is that both women will be cornered by their father (Jim The Anvil Neidhart for the Total Divas star, Ric Flair for the relative newcomer), and it's presumed that this will be The Nature Girl begins her rise to the main roster.
- The Ascension vs. El Local & Kalisto (NXT Tag Team Championship match)
Konnor and Viktor are the longest reigning tag champs in NXT history, largely because they've faced nothing but jobbers that they squash without a tag ever being made. The lucha libre team is new on the scene, but Kalisto has been tagged as a potential Rey Mysterio replacement, so they should be taken seriously. The Ascension have made some strides lately with a few gimmick tweaks, but badly need some competition in order for anyone to gauge what they're capable of.
- Sami Zayn vs. Tyler Breeze
The leading match of the night candidate, The Likeable One and The Gorgeous One are butting heads over having crossed paths on the road to Takeover and one of them being a phenomenal técnico and the other being a fantastic heel. It wasn't mentioned on the May 22nd NXT, but WWE.com lists this as being to determine the #1 contender to the NXT Title.
- Adam Rose vs. Camacho
A feud that has been simmering in developmental for about a month, the big Tongan (who plays a Latino still for some reason) has beaten up a few Rosebuds and taken a disqualification lose to the leader of the Exotic Express. Rose is pissed about it, at least when he isn't really happy. No stipulations have been announced, but it would be nice to see this at least be made no DQ.
And there you have it. There will also be a Pre-Show at 7:30PM Eastern that's currently boasting an amazing line-up of Renee Young, Christian, Paul Heyman and Cesaro.
Enough to get you to plunk down $9.99 and/or your happy self in front of an internet-enabled device next Thursday?
