The Clothesline's Cageside Evaluation

The move is The Clothesline (Lariat) and Cageside Seats readers have reported back on what they love and loathe about it. Here's the full evaluation.

WWE.com

What you loved:

  1. JBL's Version - Big guy, huge wind-up, his version was mentioned many times today.
  2. Devastating - When done right, this move should end matches more regularly. Getting a massive swinging arm right into the face, are you kidding me?
  3. Simple - Part of the clothesline's beauty is it's simple mechanics. It can literally come out of nowhere, providing that "oh shit!" moment when done right.
  4. Stan Hansen's Version - Another wrestler that had a well known lariat. I don't know how he didn't end someone's career with that move.
  5. Luke Harper's Version - Luke adds a spin to his, and looks brutal.

My favorite comment comes via Beefio:

"It dries my clothes real good (as long as it don’t rain)."

What you loathed:

  1. Overused - Literally anyone can use it now. The move has been devalued because of this. Also smaller wrestlers use it, which just doesn't look as believable.
  2. Desperation Move - It's fallen so far down the ladder, that many times it's used as a desperation move to buy some time for a beaten down wrestler. Many times it's just a lazy attack on their opponent.
  3. Injuries - A move that often is very stiff can truly injure an opponent. This will happen with any wrestling move, but if the attacker swings too hard they could take someone's head off, can you say concussion?
  4. Standing Position - Not as effective compared to bouncing off the ropes. Orton has a standing clothesline that he does every match, looks silly, mainly due to him not being a hoss.
  5. Sold Wrong - Exhibit A and Exhibit B. Looks obvious, and is a great way to kill interest in the match.

My favorite comment belongs to DiaDeLosSlapsy:

"Loathe: Lazy and super light clotheslines look awful. When a performer has poor spacing and has barely connects with his/her forearm, that’s the worst."

On to the poll! With 176 votes, The Clothesline's average score is 4.

Thanks, Cagesiders! Tomorrow's pick is a TNA triple crown winner...no, it's not KNUX.

Until then!
