The John Cena vs. Bray Wyatt match at WrestleMania 30 last night (Sun., April 6, 2014) at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana, was all about storytelling. The psychology was strong enough that the workrate didn't matter. They went out and told the story they wanted to, that Wyatt got into Cena's head and affected his game but not so much that the cleanest babyface of the past decade couldn't overcome.
Obligatory: LOLCENAWINS.
In his post-match interview at WWE.com, Cena actually apologized for "losing his cool" during the match. Here's everything he said:
"I feel good. Man, I had to apologize to a kid in the front row so I'll apologize to everybody. There was a second out there where I lost my cool. It's tough sometimes. The crowds are always split and that's all... I always want everybody to have fun. But when a guy keeps egging ya, and keeps egging ya... I don't want to say he has no merit too because he's very talented but he's new. So that takes some balls. In the moment I just thought fight fire with fire, that's the best way to do it. Then halfway through it you realize that taking the high road is probably better. Can't have any regrets but I might have got a little too vicious out there. I can't believe I'm saying that because it was WrestleMania but I'm glad everything panned out the way it did and I'm certainly happy to be victorious.
"I did a press conference earlier and I always say that people can feel the way they want about me, why should Bray Wyatt be any different? For some reason, you know, it's one of those things where it's (poking you) and it just keeps (poking you) and it's never gotten to me before, ever, to the point where even the Universe is asking, 'Well, when's he going to crack? When are we going to break him?' And I gotta hand it to him, for a split second he got me. That's over with and tomorrow's another day."
There was ONE SECOND when he lost his cool and this fine upstanding citizen wants to apologize to you for it. And he also wants to give Wyatt his just due here because for a SPLIT SECOND, Bray got him to break.
But oh well, it's over now, moving on.
Thoughts?
