There was a time when the story behind the John Cena vs. Bray Wyatt feud was as compelling as any story WWE has been telling over the past year, including Daniel Bryan's quest for respect against Triple H. Wyatt, the evil cult leader, was out to prove Cena, the squeaky clean good guy, a liar, and maybe even a cheat.
At the very least, his goal for their match at WrestleMania 30, scheduled for tonight (Sun., April 6, 2014) at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana, was to turn Cena into a monster to show that he would do anything to preserve his legacy of lies.
And then Cena went and undercut the entire story by saying he would, in fact, become a monster for their match. Because, to his mind, "becoming a monster for a day will preserve a legacy for a lifetime."
The match, and all its fun little wrinkles, lost a lot of its luster with one interview.
Still, WWE is nothing if not resourceful and the man who creates hype packages for all the big matches has delivered again, this time to the sounds of Eminem's "Legacy". You've seen it before, now watch it again and feel the excitement for a match that should still be highly entertaining despite the busted back story.
