In a recent interview with the Boston Herald, Stone Cold Steve Austin dropped a little nugget that may not mean anything, but we want to salivate over what it could mean nonetheless:
"Punk's fed up with not main-eventing WrestleMania. ... I could get more out of that guy than anybody else walking Planet Earth. He could have that ultimate ‘Come to Jesus' meeting with me. Punk's been around for a long time and he's a smart guy, but he never stepped into a damn squared circle with the intensity of a guy like Stone Cold Steve Austin."
Austin predicted not long ago that Punk will, in fact, make his return to WWE at WrestleMania 30 this coming Sunday night(April 6, 2014) at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana. It's also been announced that "The Rattlesnake" will be at the show, though his role has yet to be revealed.
He did say recently that he wouldn't travel to the event unless WWE had something for him to do.
Combine it all and it's impossible not to cook up a dream scenario that sees Punk return for an angle with Austin setting up a main event match at WrestleMania 31 next year when WWE heads to Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California. After all, it would give Austin reason to come back, give him plenty of time to prepare for one last match, and entice Punk to return for another year.
Is it going to happen? Probably not. There's simply too much working against it. But we can dream, can't we?
