Speculating on the rumors surrounding pro wrestling is a favored pastime of many fans, perhaps second only to actually watching the matches. In this daily column, we take a look at the latest rumors being churned out by the pro wrestling rumor mill.
Important reminder: Rumors are just that -- rumors. None of this has been confirmed as legitimate news or fact; so remember to take it all with a grain of salt.
Rumors for the Day:
- Every so often, there is a juicy rumor that could be a game changer, but it's the type you should always take with an extra grain of salt. Well this is one of those types of rumors. We mentioned not long ago that Shane McMahon could be back for WrestleMania XXX. Shane has been off in his own business ventures for years now, and when this rumor first came out, most didn't think too much of it. He may have just wanted to be part of a milestone event for his family. But now there is hushed talk that he may be back to become involved in a storyline. Specifically, the rumored summer storyline which was supposed to feature Vince against Triple H/Stephanie in a power struggle for control of the company. With rumors that both Daniel Bryan and Triple H could be inserted into the WWE World Heavweight Title match main event, it is being speculated that Shane could facilitate that. This is certainly a rumor to bear in mind while watching WrestleMania XXX.
- With so much going on this weekend, it's easy to forget that WWE officials are expected to announce their new television deal on Monday, April 7. The current rumor is that they will be re-signing with NBC Universal, but there is obviously nothing official yet. Additionally, WWE was thought to be looking to take NXT to television as part of a new deal, but that will apparently not be the case. WWE wants to keep NXT as a major draw for the WWE Network. There is also no word yet on other related rumors such as moving Smackdown away from Friday or expanding it to three hours.
- WWE will be touring Saudi Arabia from April 17-19, and there are several interesting matchups being advertised for those shows. The advertising is, of course, always subject to change, but it could be a glimpse of what to expect coming out of WrestleMania XXX. First, John Cena will team with Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns to take on the Wyatt Family. If it holds up, that could mean the rumored Rollins/Dean Ambrose heel turn on Reigns is off. Additionally, NXT star Sami Zayn is advertised for the show to take on Alberto Del Rio. Could be a sign of big things for Zayn coming out of WrestleMania.
- Apparently, the reason WWE decided to have the Undertaker kick off Raw on Monday night was to try and combat the How I Met Your Mother finale.
