On April 2, 1995, World Wrestling Federation (WWF) stayed close to home for WrestleMania XI, which emanated from the Hartford Civic Center in Hartford, Connecticut.
While the event is widely-criticized as being one of the worst WrestleManias of all time, I wanted to call attention to the featured attraction between WWF wrestler Bam Bam Bigelow and NFL linebacker extraordinaire Lawrence Taylor.
Their feud began at the 1995 Royal Rumble, when Bam Bam got his ass beat and as a result, got creamed by the fans. Taylor, who just so happened to be in the crowd, bore the brunt of Bigelow's frustration and was shoved on the exit.
Settle it in the ring!
Taylor trained with then-WWF Champion Diesel to get ready and (of course) he ended up getting the pin. Did losing to an NFL'er make pro wrestlers look weak? You can make that argument, but you can also make the argument that one of the gridiron's greatest ever brought enough exposure to cancel out any negative effects.
