Luke Harper's Cageside Evaluation

His name is Luke Harper and Cageside Seats readers have reported back on what they love and loathe about one-third of the Wyatt Family. Here's the full evaluation.

What you loved:

  1. In-Ring - A solid move-set including a hurricanrana and suicide dive through the ropes. Very unique for a guy his size, easy #1 choice here. See his second match with John Cena on Raw.
  2. Gimmick - Plays a very convincing creep, looks the part, and those glazed eyes, if you saw Raw last night, you saw them for sure.
  3. Agility - Almost put this in #1, but so many of you pointed this out, agility got it's own spot. Billed at 6'5 and 275 pounds he can move unlike most his size. Add to this he's 34 years old, not exactly a spring chicken.
  4. "Yeeeaahhhhh" - Love when he does this mid-match, just adds to the creepy vibe. It's all about the details...
  5. Promos - Granted his mic time has been somewhat minimal, when given a chance he's always great. Similar to Roman Reigns, doesn't get the long promos, but hits a home run every time he talks.

My favorite comment goes to MMAtylander:

"Looks awesome for the role he is playing. I could definitely believe he came out of a Louisiana swamp. Even the bald spot on his head fits well. Add in the empty eyes and the gator roll, and he is perfect for the character he plays. For a man his size, his athletic ability and in-ring work are quite impressive. You can tell he was already a polished worker before he made it into WWE development. His suicide dive is freaking fantastic. Never seen someone his size pull it off so well. Maybe Mike Awesome, but he never went between the ropes. As far as his promos go, we really haven’t heard much because Bray rightfully takes up most of the mic time for the group. What little he does get to say comes off pretty natural, though, so I’m going to guess he can hold his own in that department as well."

What you loathed:

  1. Post-Wyatt Family - Where does Luke go from here? I guess he could just break away and be a creepy truck driver or mechanic, but can't see him going above mid-card.
  2. Underutilized - He's in a stable, and not the leader, so solo time is minimal. Hopefully he gets more tag matches with Rowan. They had some great chemistry with the Usos, would like to see them feud in the future.
  3. T-Shirt - The nasty shirt fits his gimmick, but not great to see in HD.
  4. Bray's Shadow - Unfortunately anything he does, he'll be second to Bray, just the way it goes being in a stable.
  5. (Insert City) "We're Here" - I believe only Cagesider AndeeMarshall mentioned this, although not specific to Luke, it's a really good point. The Wyatts are heels, through and through, and doing that is a clear babyface tactic. Crowds "should" be booing these guys, not cheering. I guess this goes back to what JR was talking about in regards to heels not being heels.

My favorite comment goes to BrassCitySaint:

"He’s going to have a tough time down the line if the Wyatt Family gimmick dissolves. It’s so distinct, he might struggle to be regarded differently. That, and hulking lackeys traditionally don’t go far."

Onto the poll! With 227 votes, Mr. Harper's average score is 3.9

Thanks, Cagesiders! Tomorrow's pick is currently a champion.

Until then!
