It's been rumored for some time now that Bellator, the chief competitor to the UFC in the mixed martial arts space, was interested in pursuing Alberto Del Rio/El Patron. Now, Scott Coker, who heads up the Viacom owned promotion, has confirmed as much to MMA Fighting.

"I think that we did reach out. I'm not sure where that is and by no means is it in the 11th hour, but I know there's some dialogue going on. He's had a lot of great MMA fights and I just think that would be a fun time to see him fight some of the guys we have on our roster."

For those unaware, this wouldn't be anything like CM Punk signing with UFC if only because Del Rio, as Coker mentioned, as experience competing in MMA, with a record of 9-5. That doesn't mean he's some world beater, however, and he would undoubtedly need some creative matchmaking to find success in 2015.

He is 37-years-old, after all.

Still, if Bellator signed the former WWE champion would you tune in?
