When Kenta was signed to WWE, the hope was he wouldn't have to change his name, even if that was an inevitable outcome. Sure enough, when he debuted in NXT it was revealed he would go by the name "Hideo Itami", which led to fans everywhere wondering what the hell "Hideo Itami" means and why it was chosen.
WWE.com posted an interview with the man himself today and the question is asked and answered in short order:
WWE.COM: What is the meaning behind your name?
ITAMI: It means "Hero of Pain."
Our friend D.E.O. summed up our feelings fairly well after reading this:
@cagesideseats No more bitching about KENTA's name change here. "Hero of Pain" is the most gangster shit ever. http://t.co/GvoHzZPKUN
