The next pay-per-view (PPV) on the WWE schedule is the Night of Champions event set to take place on Sun., Sept. 15, 2013, at the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, Michigan, and while the general theme of the show is to have every titleholder defend his belt, that's not the case for this one.
We're only two weeks out from showtime. Four matches are now official for the show so far but there are plenty of rumors for the rest of the card. Let's take a look.
- Randy Orton vs. Daniel Bryan (WWE championship)
It's the corporate champion taking on the talented underdog. The storyline has gotten a bit repetitive of late, with Orton constantly standing tall over a beaten down Bryan to end nearly every show, but something has to give when the two actually meet for a match.
- CM Punk vs. Curtis Axel & Paul Heyman
It's a 2-on-1 handicap elimination match designed entirely so Punk can eliminate Axel and finally get his one-on-one come to jesus meeting with Heyman. Or at least that's the selling point, though you can almost surely expect more shenanigans.
- Alberto Del Rio vs. Rob Van Dam (World heavyweight championship)
Ricardo Rodriguez, slighted and cast aside by his former friend, hooked up with RVD to take on the dastardly wannabe hero of the Latino community. Not much else to report on here.
- AJ Lee vs. Brie Bella vs. Natalya vs. Naomi (Divas championship)
Lee actually made the Divas division interesting again with a killer promo on the reality television stars polluting the scene, but it didn't take long at all for the ensuing storyline to fall a bit flat. Still, they'll push ahead.
- Dean Ambrose vs. Dolph Ziggler (U.S. championship)
There was speculation and speculation alone before Ambrose ambushed Ziggler on Raw this past week. He did the same on SmackDown and that sealed the deal.
That's the card so far, Cagesiders. How do you like it?
