AJ vs. Brie for the Divas Championship at Battleground

In news broken by our own intrepid Divas maven Rancho King, WWE.com has announced that Divas champion AJ Lee will face off with the future Mrs. Daniel Bryan and star of E!'s Total Divas, Brie Bella, for the butterfly belt at the Battleground pay-per-view (PPV) scheduled for the Sunday, October 6th in Buffalo, New York.

Presumably, this will be made official and possibly even fleshed out tonight on Raw.  The backstory is established, though, with AJ's pipebombshell on Raw from just after SummerSlam.  That lead to a lot of bad matches on television and a completely forgettable Fatal Fourway at Night of Champions where the Pint-Sized Powderkeg prevailed.

The fact that Lee is not on the E! "reality show" had lead many to speculate that her time at the top of the women's division might be short - and occasional fuel has been thrown on that fire with the contentious work or shoot nature of some of her guest commentary stints with veterans JBL and Jerry Lawler during other womens' matches.  But with the bloom coming off of the Total Divas rose a little bit already, and AJ continuing to get the bulk of the marquee screen time with the likes of Stephanie McMahon, it wouldn't be surprising to see her stay at the top of the division for the foreseeable future, either.

The only thing we know for sure, the Divas title will be defended for the second consecutive PPV this Sunday.
