Speculating on the rumors surrounding pro wrestling is a favored pastime of many fans, perhaps second only to actually watching the matches. In this daily column, we take a look at the latest rumors being churned out by the pro wrestling rumor mill.
Important reminder: Rumors are just that -- rumors. None of this has been confirmed as legitimate news or fact; so remember to take it all with a grain of salt.
Rumors for the Day:
- Two weeks have passed since the Big Show was advertised to be returning to Raw, and we've yet to see hide nor hair of "the world's largest athlete." Had he returned that week, the plan was for him to save Mark Henry from the Shield, setting up a 3 on 2 handicap match at SummerSlam. However, reportedly due to a set back with Big Show's knee injury, he was not cleared to return to action. If that plan had happened, Big Show would have returned in the role of a face. Though his return has been delayed, likely until after SummerSlam, it is possible that he will still return in the role of a face. The current rumor is that a feud could be set up between face Big Show and Ryback, with the idea of getting Ryback back on a hot streak since going cold with non-stop pay per view losses from late 2012 through much of 2013. The powers that be apparently believe that Ryback is still a main event level superstar, and are now hoping that going over the Big Show will help establish him there.
- While there are significant rumors to the effect that Randy Orton will cash in his Money in the Bank briefcase on a newly crowned WWE Champion Daniel Bryan following the SummerSlam main event, don't expect Damien Sandow to be cashing in his Money in the Bank for the World Heavyweight Title anytime soon. Current rumors indicate that he may have to put the briefcase on the line against Cody Rhodes at SummerSlam, but regardless of the winner, it looks like they will be patient with the cash in. WWE wants to have a briefcase holder waiting in the wings for a cash in down the line, possibly waiting until some point in 2014, much like Dolph Ziggler waiting last year.
- WWE officials are reportedly pleased with the success so far of Dolph Ziggler and Cody Rhodes in undergoing their face turns. There have been rumors suggesting a face turn for both dating as far back as late last year, but due to a combination of crowded title pictures and a need for the proverbial "jobbers to the stars," the turns kept getting pushed back over and over again.
