Speculating on the rumors surrounding pro wrestling is a favored pastime of many fans, perhaps second only to actually watching the matches. In this daily column, we take a look at the latest rumors being churned out by the pro wrestling rumor mill.

Important reminder: Rumors are just that -- rumors. None of this has been confirmed as legitimate news or fact; so remember to take it all with a grain of salt.

Rumors for the Day:

  • Another day, another name to add to the evolving World Heavyweight Title situation at SummerSlam. This time around, (and seriously, Raw spoiler upcoming, skip this paragraph if you don't want it spoiled, you've been warned,) it's Christian. For the taped Raw event set to air next Monday, July 29, Christian defeats champion Alberto Del Rio in a non-title match. Typically, whenever someone defeats a champion in a non-title match, that person earns a future title shot. It's possible that previously rumored challenger, Rob Van Dam, will possibly earn a shot as well in his non-title Smackdown match, but it looks like Christian will be part of the World Heavyweight title scene at SummerSlam.
  • According to WWE, Randy Orton, the "red" WWE title Money in the Bank holder, is currently out with a concussion suffered last week in a SmackDown match with Alberto Del Rio. The belief is that the injury is entirely kayfabe (or has at least been greatly exaggerated,) and while there was initially thought that he would sit out until SummerSlam before cashing in the briefcase, he -- SPOILER ALERT -- worked a match against Damien Sandow at the SmackDown tapings last night. So, he's fine.
  • We discussed it in the comments of yesterday's Rumor Roundup, but it's worth mentioning again here. WWE color commentator Jerry "the King" Lawler accidentally drove to Dallas, TX on Tuesday (July 23) instead of Laredo, TX, where the Raw taping was actually taking place. He had to be flown between the cities (on WWE's dime) in order to make the show in time.
  • Speaking of Tuesday's Raw taping, it is being said by those who have witnessed it that Vince McMahon's promo segment is extremely poor. The one saving grace is that they have a week in which to edit the segment as best they can, or possibly re-shoot it if possible. Assuming, of course, someone actually has the guts to tell Vince he stunk the joint up.

If you have heard of any interesting rumors that you'd like to add, feel free to post them in the comments section below. Please remember, these are merely rumors. Try not to take them too seriously, just have fun with them.
