Speculating on the rumors surrounding pro wrestling is a favored pastime of many fans, perhaps second only to actually watching the matches. In this daily column, we take a look at the latest rumors being churned out by the pro wrestling rumor mill.
Important reminder: Rumors are just that -- rumors. None of this has been confirmed as legitimate news or fact; so remember to take it all with a grain of salt.
Rumors for the Day:
- We're closing in on SummerSlam, so let's take a look at the potential card, complete with all of the rumored matches:
- John Cena vs. Daniel Bryan for the WWE Title (confirmed)
- CM Punk vs. Brock Lesnar (confirmed)
- Kane vs. Bray Wyatt (rumored)
- The Shield vs. the Usos for the Tag Team Titles (rumored)
- Dean Ambrose vs. Mark Henry for the US Title (rumored)
- Curtis Axel vs. Rob Van Dam for the IC Title (rumored)
- Cody Rhodes vs. Damien Sandow for the "blue" Money in the Bank briefcase (rumored)
- Dolph Ziggler vs. Big E Langston (rumored)
That is a lot of matches for one card, plus the World Heavyweight and Divas titles will likely be worked in there somewhere as well, so it is possible a few of the rumored matches don't end up making the cut. Look like a pay per view card you're willing to buy though?
- John Cena vs. Daniel Bryan for the WWE Title (confirmed)
- Ricardo Rodriguez is expected to return from his Wellness Policy suspension at the August 5 Raw in Green Bay, WI. His suspension officially ends on August 1, but the majority of the WWE roster will be out of the country touring China and South Africa.
- While the long-rumored mass NXT releases never came to be, (with WWE preferring to keep everyone around for evaluation at the new developmental facility,) there has been one recent release. Memo Montenegro, younger brother of Alberto Del Rio, has been released by the company.
- The upcoming Chris Benoit biopic, Crossface, has signed on Brazilian filmmaker Vicente Amorim to direct. The film is expected to being production in 2014 and will be partially based on the Matthew Randazzo book Ring of Hell, which was highly critical of WWE and the McMahon family's role in the situation.
- The TNA Missouri-licensing debacle discussed yesterday was indeed the fault of the recently released Bruce Prichard. TNA has an upcoming TV taping in St. Louis, Missouri, and will hopefully have all the proper licensing by then.
- In more TNA news, Dixie Carter and a number of other executives (including Jeff Jarrett) met with the talent prior to last week's Destination X edition of Impact. She blamed the recent restructuring on the high cost of the One Night Only tapings back in March and did not rule out future cuts if they would help the company in the long-term. One person not present, for the meeting or the show, was commentator Taz. Taz had the night off, per a stipulation in his new contract. (Seriously.)
