Speculating on the rumors surrounding pro wrestling is a favored pastime of many fans, perhaps second only to actually watching the matches. In this daily column, we take a look at the latest rumors being churned out by the pro wrestling rumor mill.
Important reminder: Rumors are just that -- rumors. None of this has been confirmed as legitimate news or fact; so remember to take it all with a grain of salt.
Rumors for the Day:
- With ratings hitting year-to-date lows, the WWE creative team is under even greater pressure to perform than usual. The belief is that Vince McMahon doesn't realize (and/or doesn't care) that a lot of the issues with the ratings for Raw are due to intense competition (NBA playoffs) and viewer fatigue due to the third hour. (Though past rumors suggested that Raw may return to the two hour format following SummerSlam rather than try to compete with the NFL juggernaut Monday Night Football.) Still, heads have been and will likely continue to roll in the creative department as the product continues to under-perform expectations.
- As you may have heard, Dolph Ziggler returned for this weekend's house shows but did not wrestler. (Instead, he was there to support Big E Langston.) It is not believed that Ziggler has passed post-concussion testing in order to return to in-ring action yet, but the fact that he is back on the road is likely a good sign.
- We already know that the late Paul Bearer will be inducted into the 2014 WWE Hall of Fame class, and rumors are circling that he'll be joined by other big names such as the Undertaker and D-Generation X. Another name being considered is the late Owen Hart. Now that the law suit with Hart's widow has been settled, there has been a renewed push for his induction.
