Both WWE and TNA often feature storylines and characters that fans absolutely cannot connect with or bother to care about on a level other than "meh." But both companies are exception when it comes to producing quality video content that manages to make the worst creative look genius.
Such is the case with the TNA Slammiversary "Before the Bell" special for the pay-per-view (PPV) event scheduled for later on this evening (Sun., June 2, 2013) in Boston, Massachusetts.
The special focuses on the main event for the show, Bully Ray defending his heavyweight championship against Sting in a match that is being marketed as the biggest in company history because if Ray wins, Aces and 8s essentially take over TNA and General Manager Hulk Hogan loses all power. There's also been a stipulation added that if Sting loses, he'll never get a shot at the title again.
Still, the long term story of Bully getting in good with the Hogan family and then turning on them to reveal himself as the leader of Aces and 8s was done well in hindsight, even if it had very little heat while it was actually playing out. This is somewhat the culmination of that, not to mention Ray getting his first chance to defend the heavyweight championship in the main event on PPV.
If nothing else, he deserves a spot like this for the work he's done both throughout his career and in the past couple years.
The rest of the card features matches like Kurt Angle vs. AJ Styles, Devon vs. Joseph Park for the television title, and much, much more. Be sure to tune in later tonight and follow along with the Slammiversary live blog right here on Cageside Seats.
