Back in early April, both Rob Van Dam and WWE were flirting with each other and teasing a possible return for the former champion who has spent the past few years languishing in TNA. The company wrote an article pondering a possible jump back when RVD showed up at this year's Hall of Fame ceremony but nothing came of it and everyone just sort of dropped the issue.
Until tonight.
That's because it was announced during the Payback pay-per-view (PPV) broadcast that Van Dam would make his return at the Money in the Bank event on July 14, 2013, at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
It wasn't made clear if he would be entering a Money in the Bank match but it makes the most sense to put him in with his background and reputation, not to mention the fact that the show is being held in ECW land.
Since 2007, RVD has made only two appearances with the company, both surprise returns. He came back on the 15th Anniversary edition of Monday Night Raw for an unannounced match with Santino Marella and was a surprise entrant in the 2009 Royal Rumble match.
Other than that, he's been touring the independent scene and working with TNA.
But now he's back, even if he doesn't have much left in his 42-year-old legs. Then again, maybe he just needed the proper motivation and being back in the big leagues is all it will take.
Anyone excited for his return?
