Just how hurt is John Cena?
Just how hurt is John Cena?

Speculating on the rumors surrounding pro wrestling is a favored pastime of many fans, perhaps second only to actually watching the matches. In this daily column, we will be taking a look at the latest rumors being churned out by the pro wrestling rumor mill.

Important reminder: Rumors are just that -- rumors. None of this has been confirmed as legitimate news or fact; so remember to take it all with a grain of salt.

Rumors for the Day:

  • There is only one place to begin today, and that is with the reported John Cena achilles injury. By all appearances, the injury appears to be a work. Reports from the final show of the weekend didn't mention anything out of the ordinary happening to Cena, who spent the weekend in Europe working each show in a 6-man tag match. Two other good indicators are the fact that it was first announced on WWE.com and was immediately attributed to Ryback. At most, it is more likely that Cena suffered from a more minor injury that is being played up as more significant. Regardless, all signs point to WWE's resident Superman being ready for his Extreme Rules WWE title defense against Ryback.
  • If a minor injury is at fault here, it would be another in a long list that Cena is believed to be suffering from. While exact details have been scant, Cena has been rumored to be working through a number of injuries in the same vein as the elbow chips that caused him to miss last year's Hell in a Cell event.
  • Speaking of injures, WWE Hall of Famer Booker T underwent elbow surgery over the weekend. Every now and then, rumors crop up that he may be considering a return to the ring. However, at 48 and after not having regularly wrestled in several years, the odds are slim for Booker T ever returning to the ring beyond, perhaps, a Royal Rumble appearance.
  • It is believed that Undertaker will be written off TV in the aftermath of The Shield's attack on Friday's (April 26) SmackDown. The Undertaker's annual WrestleMania appearance time was extended this year due to his relative healthiness, willingness to do it, and need for star power with The Rock leaving and CM Punk taking time off.
