Boy, CM Punk is really living it up during his time off from WWE to heal some nagging injuries and recharge his batteries. Part of the way he's doing so is hitting nearly every event he would have never had time to hit otherwise, including multiple Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) shows.
The latest show he'll attend is this Saturday night's (April 27, 2013) UFC 159: "Jones vs. Sonnen" pay-per-view (PPV) at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. But while he's gone simply as a fan to the past couple, he'll be there in a somewhat official capacity this time around.
Chael Sonnen, who will battle Jon Jones for the light heavyweight championship in the main event of the evening, will be bringing Punk along to his locker room for, as he puts it, "encouragement."
From his interview with MMAFighting.com:
"He will be here Saturday, he will be in the locker room. I don't believe he's part of the walkout. He's welcome to. (He'll be in the locker room for) encouragement. But he does have front row seats that Dana White gave him and he'll have one of the best seats in the house."
This comes after the UFC promoted Punk as the WWE superstar he is on the FX broadcast of The Ultimate Fighter 17 Finale just a couple weeks ago, an incident that almost caused former UFC Heavyweight Champion Mark Coleman to attempt to pick a fight with him. Why? Because he felt the UFC was promoting Punk over himself.
I would hate to know how he feels about this.
