On This Date in WWF History (Apr. 15): Savio Vega beats Goldust but loses to Gorilla Monsoon

Savio Vega beats Goldust for the Intercontinental title -- only to lose it to WWF President Gorilla Monsoon.

In the midst of his program against the returning Ultimate Warrior, World Wrestling Federation (WWF) Intercontinental Champion Goldust was also embroiled in controversy after putting his strap on the line against Savio Vega on the April 15, 1996 edition of Monday Night RAW.

Hey look, it's Marlena!

Anyway, the match ended with the tried-and-true "ref gets knocked down, doesn't see foreign object" finish, but since a second referee came down to assist, he disputed the outcome when Vega used the belt to crack "The Bizarre One" right in the gold kisser.

Boink!

While it would appear the title was changing hands, then-WWF President Gorilla Monsoon lumbered down to the ring to reverse the call and vacate the title, stipulating that neither competitor would lay claim to it until they settled their differences a week later.

See it all go down, right here...
