Speculating on the rumors surrounding pro wrestling is a favored pastime of many fans, perhaps second only to actually watching the matches. In this daily column, we will be taking a look at the latest rumors being churned out by the pro wrestling rumor mill.
Important reminder: Rumors are just that -- rumors. None of this has been confirmed as legitimate news or fact; so remember to take it all with a grain of salt.
Rumors for the Day:
- WWE's latest salsa-dancing Superstar, Fandango, seems to be headed for big things. Previous rumors suggested that the character is a pet project of Vince McMahon himself, and now it is believed he is well on his way towards capturing once of the secondary titles (Intercontinental or United States.) Given that both titles are in the hands of heel champions (Wade Barrett and Antonio Cesaro,) one would likely have to fall to a transitional face champion before going to Fandango. Look for this as a likely storyline over the course of the summer.
- As you may have seen over the weekend, the decision to have Dolph Ziggler cash in his Money in the Bank contract for the World Heavyweight Title on the Raw immediately after WrestleMania 29 was made several weeks in advance. Additionally, plans for a Jack swagger title reign were also nixed after his DUI arrest. These two outcomes apparently had quite a bit to do with each other. A Swagger title reign and storyline likely would have lasted into the summer, making the deadline for Ziggler's Money in the Bank contract an issue. How WWE would have resolved this we may never know.
- CM Punk reportedly underwent x-rays and MRI's on both knees early last week. It was determined that, while he is dealing with several injuries, he will not require surgery.
- Scott Hall gave an interesting interview over the weekend in which he discussed the formation of the nWo. According to Hall, he and Nash wanted Bret Hart to jump ship to WCW as the third man to be unveiled at Bash at the Beach '96, but Hart wasn't interested at the time. Hall also revealed that Hulk Hogan was still on a plane, returning from filming a movie, when the event started. If Hogan failed to show in time, Eric Bischoff was going to hold Sting back and send him out in Hogan's place. It's kind of scary to think how much wrestling history may have changed had Hart have jumped ship to WCW sooner or had Hogan's plane gotten delayed at all...
