On This Date in Pro Wrestling History (Apr. 10): Jeff Hardy beats Triple H to win the Intercontinental title

Jeff Hardy scored his first major singles victory on this date in history (April 10, 2001) when he defeated Triple H, at the height of his powers, for the Intercontinental championship at a SmackDown taping in Philadelphia.

It's been said that Jeff Hardy was "made" during a ladder match with Undertaker for the WWE championship on an episode of Monday Night Raw in 2002. It was then that pro wrestling fans got a taste of the main event level talent "The Charismatic Enigma" possessed and showcased what he would eventually become.

But his first major singles victory may have occurred on this date in WWF history (April 10, 2001) when he defeated Triple H for the Intercontinental championship at a SmackDown taping in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The reason this was such a big deal is because "The Game" was at the height of his powers during this period. He was in the midst of his short run teaming up with Stone Cold Steve Austin as the Two Man Power Trip and was just over one month away from suffering his first torn quadriceps.

Hardy was just branching out into singles competition but was still with his brother, enough so that Matt showed up to assist him with a chair shot after a ref bump. Ultimately, this wouldn't last long, as Hardy jobbed the belt back not long after.

Still, it was one hell of a match and gave us a taste of what was to come in Hardy's later career.
