On this date in WWF history: Stone Cold Steve Austin forfeits the Intercontinental belt and dumps it in a river

Ah, the Attitude Era. Let's take a trip back to this date in WWF history when Stone Cold Steve Austin forfeited the Intercontinental championship before chucking it into a river on Monday Night Raw.

Hard to imagine there was a time when Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock were battling for the WWF Intercontinental title.

But battle they did, and "The Rattlesnake" defeated "The Great One" at the D-Generation X: In Your House pay-per-view, leading to the above moment on Monday Night Raw the very next evening (Dec. 8, 1997).

Austin forfeited the title to the "Brahma Bull," then promptly delivered a stunner before declaring "DTA: Don't Trust Anybody!" Not content to just humiliate The Rock (and Vince McMahon) Stone Cold then took the IC belt and threw it into a nearby river.

Legend says it's still there...wrapped around the waist of little Jason Voorhees.
