CSSGMT First Round Match: (6) Shockmaster vs. (11) Women Headliners

The first round of the Cageside Seats Greatest Moment Tournament continues today with a match-up pitting number six seed Shockmaster, featuring one of the most infamous blunders in pro wrestling history, against number 11 seed Women Headliners, featuring Lita and Trish Stratus main eventing an episode of Monday Night Raw.

Shockmaster:

At Clash of the Champions XXIV, during "A Flair for the Gold," Sting and Davey Boy Smith were involved in a segment that saw Sid Vicious and Harlem Heat demand to know who their mystery tag team partner was for their upcoming match at Fall Brawl. Sting dramatically introduced The Shockmaster, a character played by Fred Ottman (better known as Tugboat/Typhoon) who wore a stormtrooper mask covered in glitter. He was supposed to blast through a gimmicked wall to emphatically debut in WCW as a big monster. Instead, he crashed through the wall, fell down, lost his helmet, and became the biggest joke in wrestling history.

Women Headliners:

Late in 2004, Lita and Trish Stratus were embroiled in a feud over the women's championship that was just over enough to give the powers that be reason to let them wrestle for it in the main event of an episode of Monday Night Raw. Considering how unbelievably sexist WWE has always been, this was a pretty big deal. Lita nearly kills herself at one point in the match but goes on to win the title to a huge ovation.
