Speculating on the rumors surrounding pro wrestling is a favored pastime of many fans, perhaps second only to actually watching the matches. In this daily column, we take a look at the latest rumors being churned out by the pro wrestling rumor mill.
Important reminder: Rumors are just that -- rumors. None of this has been confirmed as legitimate news or fact; so remember to take it all with a grain of salt.
Rumors for the Day:
- Roman Reigns had about as strong of a two-night stretch a pro wrestler can have, first being the sole survivor from his Survivor Series team on Sunday and then delivering multiple big spears on Raw, first winning a six-man tag team match and then taking out CM Punk. It is being said that this is indeed the beginning of his previously rumored "monster push" slated for 2014. However, the Shield is expected to remain together for some time yet, likely through WrestleMania XXX where past rumors indicated that WWE would like to have the Shield and Wyatt family do battle in some form or fashion. Either way, it is now clearer than ever that WWE will try to position Reigns as the company's next megastar.
- Linda McMahon, wife of Vince and mother of Stephanie, was at last night's Raw leading to a lot of speculation that she could somehow be involved in the show throughout the night. Nothing came of her presence however. She was seated at ringside and merely spectated.
- Speaking of the McMahon family, Vince was involved in the Survivor Series post-show on Sunday night. After the cameras went off, John Cena challenged Randy Orton to a match, but Orton backed away. Cena then spent some time insulting Orton and eventually, the Authority. Triple H came out angrily to respond, but was held back by Vince. Cena then spent some time berating Vince, who took off his jacket as if to challenge Cena, but was held back by Stephanie. Vince's return to television has been rumored for several months now, but has yet to materialize. He will be back sooner than later though, as part of the build to WrestleMania XXX is rumored to be a power struggle between he and Triple H for control of the company.
- WWE officials were reportedly livid backstage at some of the early indicators of the success of the Survivor Series event as it was going on. They faced stiff competition from the NFL (in a game matching up future Hall of Fame quarterbacks Tom Brady and Peyton Manning,) as well as the American Music Awards. In particular, they were upset that they couldn't get anything from the event trending on Twitter, losing out to both the football game and music awards throughout the night.
