With some room left on the match card, this one just made too much sense to ignore: Big E. Langston will defend his newly won Intercontinental championship in a rematch against the man he took the strap from, Curtis Axel, at the Survivor Series pay-per-view (PPV) set for this Sun., Nov. 24, 2013, at the TD Garden Arena in Boston, Massachusetts.
From the WWE.com preview:
Big E Langston achieved a career milestone on Raw with his monumental Intercontinental Championship victory over Curtis Axel, but to keep the prestigious title around his waist, the upstart powerhouse must get past Axel again - this time, at Survivor Series.
WWE COO Triple H announced the rematch in his latest WWE.com sit-down interview with Michael Cole. Before making the match between the two NXT alumni official, Triple H called the Intercontinental Title a "stepping stone to bigger and better things" and listed the many WWE legends - from himself to "Stone Cold" Steve Austin and The Rock - who wore the championship in the past.
It sure is good to hear Triple H talking about the Intercontinental title as a stepping stone to the top of the card. But if that's true, does that mean Axel is moving on to the main event scene?
Shudder.
More likely it's a sign that the powers that be in WWE are big believers in Big E. If nothing else, he's reportedly got the support of the biggest star in the industry, John Cena, and that could mean truly big things down the line.
But for now, squashing Curtis Axel will do.
Here's the updated Survivor Series match card and line-up:
- Randy Orton vs. Big Show (WWE championship)
- John Cena vs. Alberto Del Rio (World heavyweight championship)
- CM Punk & Daniel Bryan vs. Wyatt Family
- Big E. Langston vs. Curtis Axel (Intercontinental championship)
- Survivor Series Elimination Tag
- Total Divas vs. Non-Total Divas
- The Miz vs. Kofi Kingston
